What a-boot the socks?

As the weather gets colder, just as the leaves change, so should our socks.

Imagine this: You have just left the house for the day, wearing your favorite pair of tall boots. You feel unstoppable. Until tragedy strikes. With every step you take, your sock begins to slide off. Inch by inch. Step by step. By the time you get to your car, the sock is halfway off your foot and you are internally screaming.

Don’t let this happen to you. Be prepared. Choose the right socks for your boots.

First off, ensure you have the right size. You might just pick your socks based on their style or price value, but we all know size matters.

The size numbers (“Sock Size 9-11”) are actually the length of your foot in inches. This is the most common form of sock sizes. If it says specifically “Shoe Size 5-7” that is just your normal shoe size. To get a more personalized fit, find socks size-based on shoe sizes with smaller ranges.

It’s also important to pick the right material. Cotton wears out quickly, so be sure to get a synthetic blend with polyester or nylon to stretch and shape with each wash. Wool socks are great for warmth, but be sure to pick a pair with elastic at the top to keep from slipping. Fair warning: if you pick wool socks and are not trudging out in the snow, prepare for a real sweat fest.

Lastly, be sure you are properly caring for your socks. They should be washed after every use in cold water to prevent the stretching of the elasticity and dried on a line or a cool air setting. High heat reduces the effectiveness of the elastic. Although, good luck keeping all your pairs after a spin in the dryer. It’s like Narnia in there or something.

Remember these tips before you strap on your boots and head out this season.

We wish you warmth this winter and we pray that none of your socks fall down in your boots.
